ABOUT ME
Hi! I’m Lex, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I live in Greenfield, MA with my wife and our seven children. This is a photo of me with our littlest beast, Edith Marta, in 2019.
My journey to becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) began in 2003 when my own first babies (twins!) were born. I was 100% certain that I wanted to exclusively breastfeed them, and I had done ZERO THINGS to prepare for that reality. I had no idea that it would be at all difficult. Ha! The early weeks of feeding my babies was the hardest thing I’d ever done in my entire life. And when I finally made it through to the place where feeding my babies felt GOOD and EASY, I knew that I wanted to work towards becoming an actual, official, lactation and baby-feeding expert, and to help as many people as possible to overcome their own infant-feeding woe. I wanted to help other parents get to the same “good and easy” ending I’d reached. What started as a personal goal—breastfeeding my own babies—morphed into something much bigger.
I first certified as an IBCLC in 2010, at which point I was already deep into the lactation world through my work with La Leche League. In the years since I decided to turn this passion into a career, I’ve helped hundreds of newborns and new parents to establish successful and rewarding breast, chest, and bottle-feeding relationships, and my passion for this work has only grown; I LOVE MY JOB.
I’m so glad you found me.
How we feed our babies matters for our babies. It matters not only that our babies BE fed (that’s a given!), but that they be fed in a biologically appropriate way, in a way that recognizes and respects their reflexes and abilities, and that feels good and safe. Biologically appropriate feeding doesn’t have to mean breast/chest feeding. And breast/chest feeding isn’t the best option for all babies/families. I teach families responsive and biologically appropriate feeding methods that can be applied to breast/chest and bottle-feeding.
How we feed our babies matters for us. It matters not only THAT we feed them (that’s a given!), but that we feed them with peace and with confidence, in a way that feels good and safe. As mammals, we are programmed to be primarily invested in feeding our young; we can’t escape the drive to do it well because it is part of our actual biology—the survival of our species depends on it! Parents who struggle to feed their babies often feel as if they are in an existential crisis, and can become consumed with anxiety. I will help you figure out a feeding method and plan that will allow you to thrive alongside your baby.
